Abstract
The Salt Water Cafe intervention focuses on its intimate upper floor, used for curated events and gatherings. A restrained material palette, bespoke lighting and custom furniture update the room while respecting an established Bandra institution. The work follows the restaurant’s existing daily rhythm.

Adapt the upper floor for events with a restrained, contemporary interior that belongs to the cafe’s history and allows its daily life to continue.
Project story
Salt Water Cafe is a Bandra institution, and it was already thriving when we arrived. So our intervention was deliberately restrained: work around the restaurant's daily rhythm, and add only what the space was missing.
The brief was the intimate upper floor, used for curated events and gatherings that draw performers and guests from across the country. We kept the material palette minimal and honest, then layered in bespoke lighting fixtures and custom-built furniture. The goal was a room that feels contemporary but still belongs to the cafe's long history.
A restrained intervention
The upper floor needed an intimate setting for gatherings without losing the café’s established character. Custom lighting, furniture and careful bar joinery do that work through a small, consistent material palette.
